She has appeared with the Boston Pops\, the NYC Ballet and on the TED main stage. Her musical ROW about fellow Kentucky native Tori Murden McClure’s quest to become the first woman to row across the Atlantic Ocean premiered in 2021 at Williamstown Theatre Festival and is available on Audible. DESCRIPTION:Doors: 8pm | Show: 9pm\nTickets: $15 At the door\n• 21+ \nMe Like Bees\nFormed on the heels of the 2000s indie rock scene\, Missouri-based indie rock band\, Me Like Bees\, was created by college dropout\, Pete Burton and former gas station clerk\, Luke Sheafer in 2009. The pair met while playing high school football together in Kansas; only to lose touch and serendipitously end up at the same college town in southwest Missouri several years later. The duo shared a mutual affinity for the music of the aughts. Bands like The Strokes\, Modest Mouse\, The White Stripes\, and Franz Ferdinand\, would serve as the catalyst to the danceable\, guitar- driven rock that Me Like Bees would become known for\, all of which are ever-present on their newly released sophomore full-length album — Disco Two Step. \nNotably\, the band released their first full-length album\, The Ides\, via Loveway Records in 2013. In 2014\, they won first prize at the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands in Hollywood\, CA — beating out 20\,000 other artists\, and securing a coveted spot on the Vans Warped Tour. DESCRIPTION:Doors: 7pm | Music: 8pm\nTickets: $15 Adv (plus online fees) | $20 Day Of\n• 21+ \n  \nPetite League\nLiving together in famed Syracuse house venue Scarier Dome hosting shows for touring bands\, producing live video sessions\, starting a screen printing business while also learning the ins-and-outs of self-recording and releasing records was the foundational stepping stone upon which Petite League was created. \nLorenzo Gillis Cook\, songwriter and composer\, along with drummer Henry Schoonmaker\, came out of the gates swinging with their signature infectious lo-fi power pop releasing their two first records before graduating from college that same year. Petite League’s melodic sun kissed brand of indie rock started the buzz right away with some immediate industry\, streaming\, and publication recognition which helped propel the band forward from the jump. \nThe band continued to shape itself into a staple of the New York indie rock scene as the band moved to Queens in 2016 enlisting the help of other ex-Scarier Dome residents Adam Greenberg and Kevin McCallum as part of the live band. Wauters explored the excitement of falling back in love with his birthplace on his subsequent record\, 2023’s Wandering Rebel\, but on his seventh studio album MVD LUV — due June 27 via Captured Tracks — Wauters doesn’t just introduce listeners to Montevideo; he invites them to feel at home within it. \nHaving spent much of his career in the United States\, Wauters has long carried the dual identity of immigrant and native son. With MVD LUV\, a love letter to both his roots and his present\, he set out to bridge those worlds by capturing the essence of Montevideo’s streets and communal spirit. Wauters recorded the album between January and October 2024 in various locations across the city\, from his own JPW Studios to bustling sidewalks\, rooftops\, and the homes of featured artists. Having worked in the past with US-based indie favorites like Frankie Cosmos\, Mac DeMarco\, and Nick Hakim\, MVD LUV fills out Wauters’ performances with a crew of local musicians including co-producer Leandro Aquistapacie\, Mateo Ottonello\, Cecilia “Checha” Rodríguez\, and Manuel Silva. Wauters mixed and mastered the record with Nicolás Demczylo at Los Aliados Estudio. Together\, these all-Uruguayan artists blend Wauters’ rootsy brand of delightfully simple folk-pop with traditional elements emblematic of the country. Songs like the lively “La Lucía” introduces listeners to candombe\, a communal music and dance tradition; recorded spontaneously\, it feels less like a studio track and more like a snapshot of a real-life encounter. Meanwhile\, “Aeropuerto” and “Siempre Vuelven” evoke sentimentality through murga rhythms\, another traditional style of drum-heavy music that’s prominent in Uruguayan culture. The result is immediately immersive\, the sprawling coastal city of Montevideo becoming more than just a setting. On MVD LUV\, the city is an active presence in the music\, a character in itself. \nThere’s a sort of pressure you can feel when returning to your hometown after a stint away; you want to be the best version of you\, with some tangible evidence that you’ve made a name for yourself. Wauters has no doubt achieved that. But he’s just as susceptible to self-doubt as anyone\, and on songs like “Dime Amiga\,” he begins to fully realize the safety net of unconditional love he’s built for himself\, layering conversational lyrics over a warm\, rhythmic arrangement: “Tell me friend\, how are you?/Tell me\, why are you crying?” he asks in Spanish\, spotlighting the power of being fully honest in a place that wholeheartedly accepts you as you are. As years pass and relationships and communities evolve\, Wauters suggests\, there may be a lingering fear that your place of origin will one day feel foreign. But\, as he also exhorts on MVD LUV: ”There are times to fly and get lost and there are also times to return.” Wherever you are\, music and love can often make you feel right at home. Rachel Baiman + Viv & Riley \nWhile on tour together in 2022\, Durham based folk duo Viv & Riley\, and Nashville-based singer/songwriter Rachel Baiman talked about the recent records that they had enjoyed. Each time one person would bring up a beloved album or song\, another would chime in with enthusiastic agreement\, and with hours in the van to daydream\, and hours on stage to enjoy harmonizing together\, the three began to scheme about recording some covers together. \nIn June of 2023\, producer Greg Griffith (Amy Ray\, Vitapup\, The Butchies) invited the newly imagined trio to spend a week in Connecticut at his home and studio. The idea was to explore some cover songs and see what the sound of the project might be\, with no expectation of a finished product \nAs the three began working out an arrangement for Lennon Stella’s “Kissing Other People”\, sitting cross legged on the floor in Griffith’s living room\, Griffith stealthily placed microphones\, as well as a vintage camcorder in the room. What emerged was a completely live take of the song\, organic and full of magic. The recording set the tone for what followed\, an 8 track album of covers ranging from cult favorites like Magnolia Electric Company\, Dr. Dog and Joan Armatrading\, to modern but lesser-known writers like Waylon Payne. \nWith Griffith’s influence\, the project explored more analog\, indie and grunge sounds than any of the individual artist’s previous work. The recording captures the beautifully uncaged feeling of the collaboration in real-time\, as Leva switches to playing drums for “Hold on Magnolia”\, and Baiman plays a wildly dissonant guitar solo on “Easy Rider”. Every idea was attempted\, and every song was captured in real time. \nKissing Other PPL is a project about openness to exploration\, collaboration\, and creativity above technicality.
